Sleep In A Beagle

Sleep In A Beagle
The world's biggest beagle is also a bed and breakfast. In Idaho: Dog Bark Park Inn.

Guests enter the body of the beagle from a private 2nd story deck. Some of the dog's decorative furnishings are carvings by Dog Bark Park chainsaw artists Dennis & Frances. Inside and up another level to the head of the dog is a loft room with additional sleeping space plus a cozy alcove in the muzzle.

It looks better from the other side because it doesn't have a deck attached to its side.

Portugese Water Dog For The Obamas Maybe Maybe Not

Not so fast, Portuguese water dog fans: Michelle Obama may have spoken too soon about First Dog
7:03 PM, February 25, 2009
People Magazine's interview with Michelle Obama, which suggests that the First Family is looking for a rescued Portuguese water dog that is "old enough" and a "match" for the family dynamic, may not be quite accurate, her press secretary Katie McCormick Lelyveld said today. The Chicago Tribune reports:

"They have not selected a breed," Lelyveld said. "Mrs. Obama likes the Portuguese water dog, but she is only one of four votes."

"Their primary focus now is that they get a dog that works with their lifestyle," Lelyveld said.

President Obama told ABC News' George Stephanopolous last month that the family had narrowed their search for a new pet to either a Portuguese water dog or a Labradoodle (a Labrador retriever-poodle cross thought of by many dog fanciers as a "designer dog"). From the Tribune's politics blog, The Swamp:

If the Obamas do decide on a Portuguese water dog, that might be difficult, says Mary Harkins, coordinator of rescue and relocation for the Portuguese Water Dog Club of America. A very active breed, some Portuguese water dogs "are without an off-switch - they just go all day," Harkins explains. "It might be a little bit too much for a family who has never owned a dog before, especially this family."

The No. 1 reason that Portuguese water dogs are rescued, Harkins says, is because owners who bought them as puppies didn't realize their prodigious activity levels.

Very few "Porties," as the breed is often called for short, turn up in rescue groups, according to Harkins. (Several offers have been made, including one from a shelter in Canada, to provide the Obamas with a rescued Labradoodle. The Canadian shelter acquired 55 Labradoodles following a puppy mill bust in December.)

Jennifer Aniston Saves A Dog With The Help Of The Paparazzi

This isn't from the movie Marley & Me. This is Jennifer Aniston stopping to help catch a dog that was on the loose on Sunset Boulevard. Apparently, a member of the ever-present flock of paparazzi then ran to help find the owner. It's nice to see celebrity photograhers and their victims working together once in awhile. See, famous people? You don't always have to beat on those crazies with the three-foot lenses!

Aniston may have recently developed a bit of a soft spot towards the photographers. They recently saved Jennifer's Aniston's dog all by themselves. Plus, the fact that Aniston recently banked over $8 million in salary in a recent dog-related movie, makes this a love fest all around.
Wasn't it a bit awkward when Jennifer was presenting at The Oscars & they kept putting the camera on Brangelina!!!

The Chimp Attack

This is such a sad story for all involved,my thoughts go to all three of the victims.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A 200-pound domesticated chimpanzee that badly mauled a woman in Connecticut had been given the anti-anxiety drug Xanax because it had been agitated.

The chimp, which once starred in TV commercials for Old Navy and Coca-Cola, was shot dead by police after the violent rampage.

Sandra Herold, who owned the 15-year-old chimp named Travis, wrestled with the animal and stabbed it after it inexplicably attacked her friend Charla Nash.

Nash had gone to Herold's home Monday to help her coax the chimp back into the house. Nash is hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities say there was no known provocation.

Stamford, Connecticut police Capt. Richard Conklin says Herold gave Travis the Xanax in some tea. Conklin also suggested the animal may have attacked Nash because she was wearing her hair differently and wasn't recognized.

BMW Going To The Dogs Donates X3 To Local Ohio K9 Unit

The K-9 unit in Hilliard, Ohio is completely funded by donations from local businesses and organizations. The latest firm to give something to the K-9 team is BMW Financial Services, which provided a specially modified BMW X3. The $50,000 SUV was given to the department in honor of the unit's second birthday and its stellar arrest record. The X3 was kitted out by BMW and other suppliers with a light bar, canine cage, remote controlled door latches, and it touted as being dog and criminal ready. In Hilliard at least, a dog's life has gotten just that much easier.
