Teddy Roosevelt's Bull Terrier Pete

or close to it! Pete, a Bull Terrier, owned by President Teddy Roosevelt caused quite a bit of drama in the White House when he bit the leg off the pants of Jules Jusserand, the French Ambassador. Pete didn’t cause any harm to the Ambassador himself, but the same couldn’t be said for the pants.

Roosevelt had waved off past incidents (such as nipping at a navel officer or snapping at various members of cabinet) as “the nature of the breed”, but when relations were strained with France over the dog’s behavior, Pete was sent to live at the Roosevelt family home, Sagamore Hill, in New York.
